Neither of these videos have anything much to do with senior living . . . except they do.

Neither of these videos have anything much to do with senior living . . . except they do.

Replacing Tears with Smiles

Six-year-old Jaden Hayes lost both his parents and after crying and crying and crying he looked around and thought “You know . . . there is just too much sadness out in the world, I am going to do something about it.”  Here is his story:

Pastor Bill Hybels recently said, “The job of leadership is to give meaning to every team member.” Imagine what it would mean if you as a leader made a commitment to put a smile on every single team member, every single resident and even every vendor. And imagine along the way you challenged your team . . . or even your residents to do the same.

This Will Make You Squirm

Energy Drink Red Bull is famous for their extreme sports videos. They have consistently garnered hundreds of thousands to millions of views. This is their most recent. What really impressed me about this video was the diver’s singleminded purpose and confidence as he stepped out onto that tiny little platform and prepared to do his dangerous, high risk and . . . maybe high reward jump.

While senior living leaders do not as a rule need to put their body in physical danger, they do make decisions that have powerful life changing impacts on others. Just like this diver, those who do it right are prepared, are confident, and yet sometimes they fidget getting ready. At the end of the fidgeting they do what they set out to do.

This is great leadership.
