I am the founder of Senior Living Foresight (formerly Senior Housing Forum) and I am passionate about helping the senior living sector grow and flourish. While I am passionately curious about all things related to aging, I am particularly passionate about leadership and helping individual team members live out their dreams because when that happens they are able to help older people live purposeful meaningful lives.
Is the telling observation here, “Some residents still drive,” with the assumption being that driving is in the past for most residents. That sounds like assisted living masquerading as independent living. “Older building, older move-ins,” may be the takeaway.
The conclusion that older buildings “can continue to do well” implies that surviving is enough even if the mission is now “a gaggle of ladies sitting around talking.” The impression are OLD… building…. people… PASSIVE… front desk unengaged… not much going on.
It sounds like an opportunity for a visionary with deep pockets to buy out the provider and to rejuvenate the place into a haven for a vital, vibrant, vigorous generation ready to embrace community and to revitalize both the physical plant and people community.
Question: is merely surviving with a tired looking community enough to fulfill the CCRC mission?
