I was flying yesterday morning and saw this little CNN video story about horses and assisted living. . .
I am wondering if you are using horses and how it is received? Here is the website for The Love of A Horse Steve Moran If you like this story it would be a great honor to me if you would subscribe to our email list.

I’ve had amazing success w/equine therapy, most specifically with elders with a dementia/Alzheimer’s diagnosis. First, in Wisconsin, we found a horse farm that offered therapeutic services typically for developmentally challenged individuals. However, we brought our memory impaired seniors to their farm and it was fantastic. A 90+ year old resident rode a horse (with significant support from farm staff) and proclaimed she’d finally fulfilled that ‘life-long dream’.
Since that initial success – I’ve ‘coached’ and worked with activity personnel all around the country about utilizing Equine therapy for those w/Dementia. I’ve had addt’l success stories of residents petting, grooming and feeding the lovely animals from Georgia to Topeka, KS. Everyone that makes the effort to organize Equine programs, finds the value and experience to be a blessing for all involved. I’ve had similar success stories when we’ve partnered with area dog shelters and doggy daycares as well. As, the dogs also bring an element of joy and excitement.
Many communities bring in ‘therapy’ dogs thru volunteers who walk around with the dog on the leash. And, although there is certainly benefit in that – engaging the residents with equine therapy and/or more advanced engagement with animals thru unique partnerships that double as outings for the residents and community service for the business/organization- is a WIN WIN situation!

What a GREAT story!! We have rescued horses (5 of them) and one mule and they are incredibly loving. Our daughter found our mule and he comes to the sound of her voice no matter where he is on our farm. This one brought tears! Thanks for sharing, Steve.

A local assisted living provider nearby (Fenton, MI) – Tanglewood – has a horse farm adjacent their property and they do amazing things with their residents who are all in varying stages of Alzheimer’s/dementia. You can check out their website http://www.tanglewood12.com.
