Why aren’t you doing more videos?

Had you been asked that question ten years ago, you’d have been forgiven for waving it off with a vague commitment to “look into it”. But not so today. Video is serious business. People expect video. Your prospects gravitate towards video. And for good reason. It pulls them through your doors and into your world. And, with video, you get to control what that world looks like . . . in motion.

You know all that of course. But maybe you’re still a skeptic. Perhaps that’s because you have a lack of resources, or worry about privacy issues, or think video is just too expensive. If so, here’s something to check out. OneDay (a Senior Living Foresight partner) has put together a pdf that concisely lays out some pretty compelling benefits of using video. I’ve shared a few of them below. But you’ll want to download the full pdf, which you can do here.

  1. Search engines love video. For starters, there’s this stat: Mobile video usage has increased by nearly 10 million daily viewing minutes in the last two years. And, something else you may not know: YouTube is the #2 search engine in the world.
  2. Videos build trust. The goal, especially for senior living communities, is to establish a personal connection with the prospect and build trust in the process. Nothing achieves this like video.
  3. Video is a great way to help customers understand what you do. Viewers retain 95% of a message when they watch it in a video, compared to 10% when reading it in text (Wirebuzz). (So, that video of your 85-year-old resident talking about what she likes best about your community will stick in the minds of your prospects longer than a written quote on your web page.)
  4. Videos can be done fast and are easy to do. Too often, companies assume they need a big budget to produce videos, but high production value videos can be boring. All you need is a compelling story, decent lighting and sound, and you are ready to go.
  5. Video plays well on mobile devices and gives consumers a perfect way to take a quick break. When people have a few minutes to spare or want to take a quick break, they watch video on their mobile devices. (They could be watching your video.) Need proof? 75% of all video plays are on mobile devices.

Based on all this, it isn’t a stretch to conclude that all those videos you aren’t making are probably costing you leads. If you want more proof, take a minute and download the pdf. Share it with the skeptics, naysayers, and other hand-wringers in your organization.

The bottom line is that video is here to stay. It attracts the very people you want to attract. It may be time to find a place for video in your marketing plan. Not on the sidelines; but front and center.
