Sometimes it feels like preaching to the choir — when you say in this industry that providing a great culture is our top priority.

But let me share a secret — and this is whittled from our Great Place to Work Institute efforts focused on senior care . . .

This “workforce is a top priority” is actually part of 21 priorities. The new building over there. The EMR implementation. The new dining program. And on and on. Everything, for sure, is important.

That said, is our workforce challenge really going to be fixed?

Probably not.

Come on, people.

Our workforce issues will continue to swelter. And get worse.

Unless we actually address them as OUR TOP PRIORITY. I mean, rather than designating it “Sue’s responsibility” or “HR’s initiative” or “so-and-so’s thing.”

I guess what I’m saying is that a year of deep dives into our industry’s workforce challenges has revealed a trend. Of course, this is not applicable to some organizations (and they know who they are because their turnover is more than one standard deviation below sector averages).

Does anyone else feel this way? If so, please say Amen below. And leave any other thoughts or solutions. Thank you for letting me stand on the soapbox this morning!
