Most people want to do great work, so if they’re not doing great work … we need to ask why.

I have this radical belief that not everyone agrees with. Maybe even most people don’t believe it.

Most people — almost all people — want to do great work.

They want to contribute. They want to matter. At the end of the day, they want to go home feeling proud of what they did.

As leaders, when we see disengaged employees, poor performers, or even toxic team members, our first instinct shouldn’t be blame …
