Tana Gall and Merrill Gardens have a challenge for you.
Let’s start with the video:
So, how about your team, your community, your company? Tana and the Merrill Garden Team want to know if you will take the Ice Bucket Challenge. If you take the challenge we will post your video at Senior Housing Forum.
The Back Story
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. The end result is that an individual with ALS loses muscle control, meaning that the brain quits being able to send signals to the muscles of the body. The early stages include loss of muscle movement, muscle twitches and often leading to paralysis. There are so many worthy causes seeking funding for research leading to a cure. Many, like breast cancer and Alzheimer’s, have received huge amounts of publicity that has lead to a massive outpouring of donations. ALS has not been one of those causes… until now.
How It Works
You have been challenged to be filmed having a bucket of ice water dumped on your head for the cause. Then do three easy things:
1. Make a donation to the ALS Foundation. You can do that HERE. I made mine!
2. Post the video on social media. Send me a link and I will also post it here. Here is mine:
3. Challenge your friends and colleagues to do the same. Will you do it? Steve

And Andy Smith of Brookdale took the challenge X 2:
Our CEO Andy Smith stood up to the challenge today – the ALS “Ice Bucket Challenge,” that is! Kelly McMahon, business office manager at Woodside Village in Bedford, Ohio posted this video on her community’s Facebook page when she took on the challenge herself and challenged Andy to do the same. Andy was also challenged by Peggy Hackett – executive director at Sweet Life of Rosehill, in Shawnee, Kansas, who is raising money for some of our veterans to take part in an Honor Flight. So Andy took on two buckets of ice water, one for each cause!
Troy Griffiths and the Vigil Health Solutions takes the Ice Bucket Challenge. This one made me laugh:
