If you’re a regular reader, you likely know I teach 5th- and 6th-grade kids each week at my church. One of the major yearly rituals is when the 6th graders get promoted to Jr. High and the 4th graders matriculate to 5th grade, allowing them to join my class.
Each year, the class takes on its own unique personality based on the makeup of the class. The group that moved on was uniquely good, socially appropriate, high-achieving kids. They are being replaced with a very different, more challenging mix of kids, some of whom are really challenging, and others are easy. In particular, I have two boys who are known to be problem kids — low impulse control, low attention span, troublemakers.
It will be a challenging two years …
And … I have never been more excited to be teaching this particular group of kids.
