By Steve Moran

A few of you have discovered it already but only a handful. We wanted to get it up and running, but it was not yet time to talk about it.

When I first started Foresight, under the name “Senior Housing Forum,” I had this burning passion to improve the lives of frontline workers. While I wrote about other things related to senior living, much of what I wrote — and we published — was about how to make workplace cultures better.

The Drift

One of the many challenges of being a curious person is that there are so many things to be curious about, even when focusing on a niche industry like senior living. Each of those things becomes a rabbit hole that is so much fun to chase down, in and out, and all around.

Gradually, my writing drifted into other areas — areas that are in some ways more front-and-center for industry leaders.

It is not that we never talk about culture. We do. It has just become part of the much broader landscape.

Too Important

Honestly, for a lot of people, creating great workplaces for frontline workers is not all that interesting. Much less exciting than exploring things like active 55+, value-based care, purpose-driven programs, technology, AI … this list is nearly endless.

But the truth is that when you get the frontline worker thing right, all those other really important things will be massively better. It will improve the lives of residents, it will improve occupancy, it will improve margins.

It is time to put more time and energy into my first love, the frontline worker.

Passionate, Practical Leadership

There is enough leadership advice and wisdom floating around to choke on … things like:

  • Lead from the heart.
  • Be a servant leader.
  • Be an active listener.
  • Empower others.
  • Be radically candid.

There is nothing wrong with all this, except that no one talks about how you actually do these things. This means people, leaders, end up frustrated, defeated, and feeling less competent.

They shouldn’t …

There are things you can do — simple things, easy things — that can transform a workplace culture into something wonderful and amazing.

We are excited to announce the launch of a new Substack membership site called Passionate, Practical Leadership. The content will be very narrowly focused on helping leaders create a workplace culture that team members love, that they are proud of and loyal to.

We will publish eight to 14 content pieces a month.

You will find two types of content:

  1. Free content: This leadership content will be thoughtful and thought-provoking. It will help leaders think about what they do in better and fresher ways.
  2. Premium content: The premium content, we are calling “Do This.” These will be very specific things leaders can do — actions they can take that will create better cultures. There is a very small fee to access this content. There will be at least two premium content pieces each month and perhaps more, but we don’t want to overwhelm.

Premium Content Cost

Way too often, good content is priced like it is great content. We are taking the opposite approach. We are offering you great content that will transform your organizations. (This assumes, of course, that you and your leaders use the actionable content.)

The cost is $8.00 per month, or $80 per year.

Now you are thinking, “Too cheap. Nothing that good costs that little.”

It is that good. We want you to sign up and use it. We want you to purchase it for every leader in your organization, from people in the C-suite to department heads.

And if you purchase a company block of subscriptions, we have some special bonuses for you.
