Majd Alwan probably has a better understanding of technology and senior living than anyone else in the world.

By Steve Moran

Oh so long ago I interviewed Majd Alwan, the Senior Vice President of Technology and Executive Director of the LeadingAge Center for Aging Services Technologies (CAST). He probably has a better understanding of technology and senior living than anyone else in the world. This is what he had to say.

Promising Technologies

My first question for Majd was about the most promising technologies. He listed several. The most important being electronic health records closely coupled with point of care technologies. He then went on to talk about how LeadingAge is working to give providers a matrix of options based on their specific needs and sophistication. He added that this is available to any senior living provider, not just LeadingAge members at the CAST page of the LeadingAge website.

They are also looking at telehealth, medication management, functional assessments, activity monitoring and person-centered care planning and care coordination.

Future Technologies

I then asked Majd to get his crystal ball out to share his thoughts on what we might see in the future. He sees telehealth as a big one and the second are tools that will aid communities and residents to better manage chronic health conditions.

The big idea is that if we can use technology to intervene and manage chronic conditions early in the process it has huge potential for saving money and providing a massively higher quality of life for a much longer period of time.

There is so much more than this. You can watch the entire interview here:
