Scott White, President of Mainstreet, a Senior Housing Forum partner, believes in the future of post-acute care if operators take the right attitude.

In this video clip, he says, “You’ve got to start with the patient experience. Right now, the patient, in my opinion, is sometimes an afterthought. You put up a building, you hope that you fill the beds, you generate cash flow and everybody wins. That’s wrong!

“We start by thinking about the patient experience,” White states. “There’s not enough emphasis on are we treating our aging population correctly, are we providing a product that we can be proud of?”

Those in the post-acute care marketplace who take Eeyore’s outlook will miss opportunities. White notes that as industry’s change, there are always winners and losers. He says, “The winners are going to be those that focus on the patient experience . . . on delivering the highest quality of health care, the best outcomes, in an efficient way.

“I understand there is a business model here . . . you need to find that mix . . . between the appropriate investment in the business, in the operations, in delivering the highest quality patient experience and getting the best outcomes.”
