Imagine walking through a graveyard and reading the epitaphs under the names. Mostly you see what you’d expect. “Loving mom.” “Hard-working father.” Some are more interesting; others are trivial but meaningful to the families who chose them.
Then you come across one that says this:
“A great leader because of his listening skills.”
You’d never believe it.
We celebrate leaders for vision, for courage, for being decisive, for being great communicators, for getting things done, for making lots of money, and for inventing new products or new ways of doing things.
We never celebrate leaders for their listening skills. Maybe we should.
