The Numbers Don’t Lie
The statistics on loneliness are shocking. 30% of Americans feel lonely at least once a week, and 10% feel it every day, according to a 2024 study. It’s actually worse than even that — more than half of all Americans feel lonely on a regular basis.
Those lonely people are not “other people.” They are you and me, the people we work with, the people we socialize with, the people we go to church with. It means that half of you reading this regularly experience feelings of loneliness.
In a moment of vulnerability … that statistic includes me. I have felt lonely at home. I have felt lonely at conferences surrounded by hundreds of people. And I have felt lonely when I am alone.
